WAVE Project – University of Limerick

What is Low-Code/No-Code?

Low Code / No Code (LCNC) software development enables communities to build powerful digital solutions faster and more efficiently than traditional development methods.

By using visual workflows, drag-and-drop interfaces, and pre-built components called service independent blocks (SIBs), LCNC platforms dramatically accelerate development timelines, increase team productivity, and deliver a faster return on investment for industry. These platforms also make application development accessible to non-programmers, empowering business users to create and manage solutions without extensive coding knowledge or the need to rely on expert developers. Best of all, LCNC technology is domain agnostic, making it suitable for a wide range of industries and use cases — from automation and data management to customer portals and enterprise applications.

The WAVE Project

The WAVE Project, based at the University of Limerick, drives advancements in platforms and methods for LCNC software development.

The central aim of the WAVE project is to create, evaluate, and deliver a new software development platform (the WAVE Platform) that enables collaborative LC/NC development. This platform will have a significant impact on a range of stakeholders from industry and government to researchers and the public, enabling even those no computer science or software development expertise to create and customise software applications tailored to their specific needs.

Challenges Solved by WAVE...

Developer & Skill Shortages

WAVE democratises software development to enable those without expert programming knowledge to develop applications tailored to their needs. As part of the project, extensive training materials for all skill levels are being developed

Long development times

By using a visual programming interface and sharing resusable SIBs across the platform WAVE greatly lowers development time. Once a SIB has been created, it can be reused by anyone.

High development costs

WAVE reduces the need for organistions to hire expert programmers to create the software thay they need.

Difficult to adapt to business changes

Becuase WAVE uses a modular approach to workflow creation, applications can easily be modified as needed by the organisation. Users can modify entrie workflows or parameters within modifiable SIBs to suit their needs.
